Trying the embedding exercise - here goes

Digital Preservation YouTube

Hi

Sinead sent me a link to this video on this riveting topic. It even manages to incorporate 'metadata'! I'm all for using some humour or animation to drive home your message or make it more palatable.....it's certainly worth a try! Not bad really. More to come from this outfit....can't wait! What about digi-man's pants - very short and tight! See what you think...blame Sinead! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbBa6Oam7-w

Mr Bean's visit to the Library

Hi

Someone of you might want to check out this humourous video. A little overlong - but you can never get too much Mr Bean! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDMco-W52hc
BTW - loved the 'Evolution of Dance' video - really clever and funny.

Hi

I wonder does my last post count as recognition of having completed 'thing 13'?? By virtue of highlighting the negatives, I must have known the positives...?? I can't be penalised for not being peppy about every 'thing'! I should have known that it would be no. 13 that would push me over the edge!! I promise that I'll have recovered after the May bank holiday....perhaps!

Wikis

Hi

Still behind - only on wikis. I've come to the conclusion that I wouldn't be a good candidate for creating a wiki. Basically, I don't have any friends and I'm a control freak - yes the latter has a bearing on the former! They keep talking about needing a 'community' and 'buy in' from others. Even if I could get past this obstacle - the disorganised nature of wikis would be a problem - please leave my messy office out of this! And the spam! The more content, the more maintenance...it's never-ending. It may be sold as easy to do - but there is a learning curve! Don't be fooled by the coolness of it all! Seriously folks, I don't have a big enough ego for all these 'look and listen to me' tools and I'm just not that 'caring and sharing' type!!!! Remember silence, keeping one's own counsel - seriously under-rated!!!Phew -I needed to get that off my chest!

Blogger Central

Hi

The singing sensation 'Susan Boyle' seems to the big news here. Great expectations for her in the next round! She'll never top that first viewing. I hope she's got a good manager!

Delicious

Hi

Delicious doesn't look that tasty at 6.45pm on a Friday afternoon! Still I'm not immune to its charms and can see the benefit of sharing bookmarks amongst interested parties.

Web 2.0 Awards..

Just checked out some of the listed sites - the travel ones are quite good - Farecast and Gusto... Handy little tools - e.g. Farecast offers you a 'multi-city' option - for all you dreamy travellers out there with some spare cash (i.e. if you still have some!)

Google-eyed!

This much exposure to books can't be good! I get enough at work (not the virtual kind!)- and at least they're largely the hard-copy variety!

However, I can see the benefits of including our collections in Google Book search - it could really act as a spotlight on our resources. I'm sure there are many that are in the public domain and could be scanned in full-text.

LibraryThing

Just checked out LibraryThing - very useful tool. Added some books I read some time ago or hope to read in the near future. Can't dally too long or will never catch up!

Flickrering...

Flickrering could turn into flittering away a whole lot of time!!

I could get addicted to this! I'll be swamped with news! For some reason the whole concept conjures up the bloodthirsty plant (representing me!) in the cult movie 'The Little Shop of Horrors', where I keep shouting FEED ME! Sorry... definitely time to leave!
